A large range of sections are available from 40mm to 70mm OD in either ‘Hi Modulus’ or ‘Standard’ grade carbon. The majority of masts are supplied in KIT form to nominated assemblers.
In producing a KIT the section is chosen to provide the required stiffness. The ‘geometric’ design to determine top mast taper length, height of spreader arms, the rigging and fittings layout completes the design process. While in many classes these are restricted their optimisation is significant in the performance of the mast.
When an existing section isn’t suitable a new one is designed working closely with the customer to achieve the characteristics required.
HI MODULUS
These sections are normally constructed from HR40 carbon with a modulus of 377GPa. They are primarily used in the Hi performance classes. The principle effect is in reducing the outside diameter. For example a 45mm section will have the same stiffness as one of 60mm OD constructed from standard modulus carbon.
STANDARD MODULUS
The most commonly used carbon for dinghy classes with a modulus of 230GPa. Ideal for one design classes.

KITE
The KITE is a gaff sloop rigged trailer sailor described by Classic Boat as “not only one of the prettier traditional trailer sailors but one of the quicker ones too”
Paragon supplies the standard modulus sections for the mast, gaff and boom.
DEMON YACHTS has a growing reputation for building up one off custom rigs with Paragon sections.
